Comcast Honored as Corporate Champion at Urban League Twin Cities’ Centennial Celebration

The Comcast Midwest Region was recognized by the Urban League Twin Cities (ULTC) with a corporate giving award for its commitment to philanthropic support at the non-profit’s Centennial Celebration in Minneapolis.
“Comcast started funding the Urban League over a decade ago in the area of education,” said Marquita Stephens, President and CEO of the ULTC. “They funded the after-school programs as they changed and grew, and then pivoted their support to workforce development.”
Since 2007, Comcast has proudly contributed nearly $1 million in support of ULTC. In addition to sponsoring its annual Unity Ball and Family Day events, Comcast’s support has empowered hundreds of participants to advance digital skills through training classes and the Urban Tech Jobs Program.
“While Comcast partners with Urban League affiliates across the country, our connection here in the Twin Cities is truly special,” said Stacey Nelson Kumar, Director of Community Impact for Comcast’s Midwest Region. “They’ve shown us what’s possible when we work together—with purpose, with heart, and with a vision for a better future.”

“We know digital skills lead to greater workforce participation that positively impacts the economic stability of families across the Twin Cities,” said Meghan Shea, Director of Government Affairs for Comcast’s Midwest Region, in her remarks. “It is incredibly rewarding to know we helped make that happen through our partnership with ULTC.”
Recently, the Urban League secured its first AmeriCorps volunteer to help with digital literacy. It required a financial commitment that Urban League Twin Cities could not meet. That’s when Comcast stepped in.
“They intervened and told us, proceed,” said Stephens. “They would pay the fee. No application. No interview. Just belief in us and our work. We delivered, too. Over a thousand people serviced; we went to senior housing, low-income developments, and more —even a native group on a reservation —teaching people basic literacy like how to use Venmo.”
“Thank you, Comcast, for your commitment to service. I am pleased to present you a corporate giving award for your commitment to the work of the Urban League and your ability to pivot and stay with us over time,” said Stephens.
