Back to School Spirit: Twin Cities Mobilizes for Record-Breaking Action Day

Action Day

With back to school right around the corner, Comcast and 40 of its Twin Cities-based employees and their families showed up in support of a record-breaking Action Day 2025 held at the Saint Paul RiverCentre.

For more than five years, Comcast has been a proud sponsor of Action Day in partnership with Greater Twin Cities United Way. This year, the company’s sponsorship helped cover the cost of school supplies for a record 60,000 backpacks, which will be distributed to 132 organizations across the Twin Cities metro area prior to the upcoming school year.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Comcast for their generous and continued support of Action Day,” said Shannon Smith Jones, senior vice president of community impact at Greater Twin Cities United Way. “Their longstanding partnership has helped us equip thousands of local students with the supplies they need to start the school year strong. Comcast’s commitment to community and volunteerism continues to make a lasting impact across the Greater Twin Cities.”

The backpacks provide essential school supplies for students so they can thrive in the classroom and beyond, including information on Comcast’s Internet Essentials program.

“Comcast is incredibly proud to continue our longtime support of Action Day in the Twin Cities — supporting this event reflects our continued commitment to area students and their families as they prepare to go back to school,” said Stacey Nelson-Kumar, director of Community Impact for Comcast’s Midwest Region. “We believe in the power of coming together to make a meaningful impact, and Action Day is a shining example of what’s possible when individuals and organizations unite for a common cause.”

The Midwest Region has been vital in the volunteer recruitment to staff the primary volunteer day as well as two additional satellite projects, providing a big boost in creating successful events. In all, the company supported more than 35 events to help students and families prepare for next school year.
