Comcast Expands Fiber Network, Bringing Multi-Gigabit Internet to the City of Nowthen

Comcast Groundbreaking ceremony in the city of Nowthen, MN.

Comcast is bringing its fiber-rich network to more than 1,200 homes and businesses in Nowthen, MN. The network expansion is in partnership with the Minnesota Office of Broadband and their Minnesota Border-to-Border Broadband grant program, Anoka County, and the City of Nowthen.

Comcast celebrated the expansion with a groundbreaking event with the City of Nowthen outside of their Town Hall and was attended by city and Anoka County officials, and elected officials.

This has been quite an adventure for me, I’ve been working on bringing high speed internet to all of Nowthen for more than ten years and it is finally becoming a reality… It was a great team effort.

Nowthen Mayor, Jeff Pilon

Immediately following the groundbreaking ceremony, attendees continued to celebrate with a cool treat from Pretty Great Cake Shakes – a local food truck born from a couple’s love of creating delicious desserts.

The expansion project will provide residential customers the ability to take advantage of Xfinity’s full suite of products, including Internet, video, mobile, voice and managed home solutions. For local businesses, Comcast Business will offer a suite of connectivity, communications, networking, cybersecurity, wireless, and managed solutions to help organizations of different sizes prepare for what’s next.

We are committed to investing in and expanding our network to ensure more residents and businesses across the Twin Cities have access to the connectivity they want and need for their educational, professional and personal lives, said Kalyn Hove, Comcast Senior Vice President, Midwest Region. Comcast is proud to partner with cities like Nowthen, and states across the nation, working to connect every American and fueling innovation and growth.

Building out Nowthen is just the latest step in Comcast’s Midwest Region’s expansion efforts, which also includes expanding in communities in Washington County, Wayzata, Cologne and Chanhassen. The Nowthen project is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2025, and adds to Comcast’s total technology and infrastructure investments exceeding $525 million in Minnesota over the past three years.

Providing broadband service to this primarily unserved area will greatly improve the community’s quality of life by enabling residents to expand their career pathways; access and engage in telehealth opportunities; pursue education; thrive in commercial farming, and more. We are looking forward to seeing this project completed.
