Northside STEM District—a collective of community organizations in North Minneapolis that all provide educational services—has a vision to build a diverse pipeline of STEM leaders and innovators within the North Minneapolis ecosystem where every student has an equitable opportunity to participate and thrive as contributing citizens within their communities. Students living in underserved communities are empowered through access to programs, activities, and education to inspire and prepare them to be workers of today, tomorrow and the future.
Comcast is a proud corporate community partner to help support the Northside STEM District, which aims to introduce how cool STEM is to students who might not have the chance to interact with the latest gadgets and technologies. Station stops like Coding & Programming, Drones, Alternative Energy, Humanoids, and more will give attendees an introduction to what STEM has to offer them now and in the long run in hopes of piquing early interest.
“We’re so thankful to Comcast for stepping in and partnering with us. Their $50,000 donation is going to go a long way in helping to close the digital divide,” said Jalonda Combs, Northside STEM District Director.
Summit Academy conceived and formed the Northside STEM District years ago to bring exposure to STEM to students at an earlier age. Though best known for its 20-week no out-of-pocket cost training programs for adults, Summit Academy has identified that the way to change an individual’s life trajectory is to start young.
