For many veterans, transitioning from military service to civilian life can be one of their most difficult challenges. Matching valuable military skills to careers in the private sector is often daunting for both veteran and employer alike.

Leading the company’s efforts is Carol Eggert, Ret. U.S. Army Brigadier General and senior vice president of Military and Veterans Affairs for Comcast. She works across the enterprise to provide strategic leadership in engaging the military and veteran community, including recruiting, hiring and building talent at all levels.
Eggert recently visited the Twin Cities as a speaker at the annual Minnesota Women Veterans Conference, presented by the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs. Addressing the topic, “Resilience and Self Care,” she stated that resiliency is a skill that can be learned.
“I define resiliency as the ability to grow and thrive in the face of challenges and bounce back from adversity,” said Eggert. “However, to do so, we must first focus on individual health and wellness through three key building blocks: sleep, nutrition and movement.”
According to Eggert, a significant step along the journey is to actively look for and claim the “good stuff” in life, which helps develop an ‘attitude of gratitude.’
“There are costs to ignoring the good stuff – depression, lack of physical well-being, fitful sleep, troubled relationships. Focusing on the good helps build connections to others and enlarges our perspective. We’re able to see that the world is much more than our troubles.”
Eggert added, “By building resiliency through gratitude, we unlock the fullness of life.”
The day’s agenda included the presentation of the “2019 Minnesota Woman Veteran of the Year” recognition, awarded to Air Force veteran Ruth Perry, who served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
