On Saturday morning, May 4, more than 100 Kansas City area Comcast employees, family members and friends will “make change happen” as they volunteer to improve the new food pantry and library of Community Services League (CSL) in Independence during the 18th annual Comcast Cares Day.

This group of enthusiastic volunteers will be at 18109 E 12th Street, to help renovate the building by doing general maintenance, painting, landscaping, and stocking shelves for CSL’s seventh food pantry location. Employees from Accenture will join the Comcast team as the volunteers work to make a difference in the community.

“As we celebrate Comcast Cares Day, we are delighted to partner with Community Services League to give back to the Independence community,” said Jeff English, Xfinity Area Sales Manager at Comcast.  “It is incredible to see how we can drive meaningful change by bringing together our employees, their friends and families, and our community partners, both on this day and throughout the year. We are thankful for the work of everyone in this effort.”

“The goal of Community Services League is to make meaningful and lasting change in people’s lives,” said Doug Cowan, president & CEO of CSL. “Comcast has been a vital partner in helping us fulfill our mission in a variety of ways, including offering their volunteer time on Comcast Cares Day. Their work will make a lasting impression for years to come.”

Cowan added, “This project will bring a number of important services under one roof for the Northeast Independence community that typically has to drive at least four or five miles to access many of these same programs. We are also grateful for the ongoing collaboration with organizations such as Mid-Continent Public Library, Fort Osage School District, and Village Heights Community of Christ.”

Comcast Cares Day is more than just a day – it is an illustration of the spirit of volunteerism Comcast employees bring to life every day. From using technology to create positive change, to mentoring youth, to beautifying parks, Comcast NBCUniversal employees volunteer during this celebration and throughout the year to make a lasting impact in the communities we serve.

To date, more than one-million Comcast Cares Day volunteers have contributed over six-million service hours to improve local communities at more than 10,000 projects. This year, the company expects more than 100,000 volunteers from Comcast, NBCUniversal, and for the first time Sky, to participate in projects across the country and around the world.

The Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation will also provide grants to local partner organizations on behalf of volunteers who contribute their time on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast’s partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year.  To date, the Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation has awarded nearly $25 million in grants to local nonprofit organizations who have served as partners on Comcast Cares Day.
